TransBucegi
The old road to the Romanian Seaside is probably the initiation for all local rides seeking adventure. This is the alternate route to the boring highway that is full of tourists, buses and lorries.
The first 60 km are a bit bland but after that the landscape changes completely to a beautiful fields of poppies, rapeseeds, vineyards and other very colorful herbs and plants.
Best time to ride
We recommend June or August because it is not to hot outside during the day and after a few hours of riding you can enjoy a well deserved swim in the sea.
Surface
The road tends to be well paved, it takes you through villages and this mean corners could have sand or mud from tractors coming back on the road. As long as you have your wits about you.
Near Calarasi the Danube crossing is by ferry, there are rides every half an hour during the day.

Traffic
Because it is not a main road to anywhere, the road is mainly empty with local cars and sometime tractors that are crossing the roads. You can also encounter horses and buggies.
Scenery
It is beautiful the whole motorcycle season. Views are spectacular from spring to autumn of all the flowers and landfield colors that change during the year.
Police
For the most part the road is police free. You need to be cautious when you approach Calarasi and after the ferry near Orsova because the road is near a border crossing.
Food and drink
The only city you encounter on this road is Calarasi, that is actually you are just passing nearby. So if you really want to eat at a restaurant you can enter the city to find a proper one. On the other hand we recommend to pack sandwiches or to stop on local shops or bars in the villages to buy some breadand other can food to eat roadside.
